FOSTER BEYOND, exists to provide housing support to young adults who age out of the Social Services system so they can focus on their educational and career goals. Providing housing support, clothing, group therapy, academic and employment assistance will allow young adults who age out to focus on being productive members of society. Housing has been identified as the main thing young adults are in need of after aging out of social services, so my organization aims to mitigate this issue by providing transitional services into housing, and other additional services effective in building hope, and sustainability.
The primary individuals being sent to my organization are welcomed referrals from Social Services, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court, Probation/Parole officers, local churches, and other nonprofit organizations who help young adults in the foster care system. The individuals will be between the ages of 18 through 27 years old in the Southern California area until I am able to expand to other metropolitan areas.
FOSTER BEYOND works with homeowners throughout Southern California by providing low cost property management, reducing vacancy factors, reducing repair costs, reducing property damage, prolonging economic life of property and allowing owners the freedom from various daily property tasks.

FOSTER BEYOND works with homeowners throughout Southern California by providing low cost property management, reducing vacancy factors, reducing repair costs, reducing property damage, prolonging economic life of property and allowing owners the freedom from various daily property tasks.
Foster Beyond helps young adults by providing support to move into properties, help with day-to-day living, donations of regularly needed items, assistance with school enrollment, resume assistance, group therapy, and any other services necessary that a close knit family would provide for continued success.
While she was choosing us, we were choosing her! Meet Laura Scott, our newest board member at Foster Beyond! She brings quite a bit of experience, a knack for social justice, and a beautiful spirit!
Laura earned an Associates of Arts at Los Angeles Valley College in 2001, then transferred to University of California Los Angeles and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology in 2004. Next, she earned a masters of arts in sociology from California State University Northridge in 2008. She started teaching sociology right away, and got a full-time, tenured position at Los Angeles Valley College in 2010, where she has been a professor ever since. Some accolades Laura received includes best club advisor for work with the sociology club, best online instructor, and the prestigious "Crystal Apple Award" which is an award that is voted and presented directly from the student body.
Classes taught include intro sociology, marriage and family, crime and delinquency, and gender studies. She is passionate about social justice and have worked closely with organizations to amend California's Three Strikes Law, served on committees, and worked with effort to promote equity for students at LAVC, including student parents, foster youth, homeless students, and other marginalized groups. Laura is very proud of the work she does with students and she is vehement about the mission of community college which is the idea that we ALL deserve a chance to reach our potential and follow our dreams!
Personally, Laura is a mother of two elementary school aged children and has found great joy serving on the PTA board as grade level director for the past 5 years, as well as room parent coordinator and room parent. Laura described being a mother as "hands down my favorite endeavor and what I am most proud of!"
When Laura is not teaching or parenting, she loves playing the drums, eating good food, spending time with loved ones, and laughing! Her personal statement is "there is no greater gift one can give or receive than the kind of laugh that comes straight from the soul!"
